Answers

Is it going to hurt?
Yes. Piercing is not a painless experience but pain is completely relative to the individual. The pain is never as bad as the person builds it up to be. The piercing process last a split second and is done before you can say ouch.

How long will it take to heal?
Each piercing has its own unique healing time. These times are approximate.

What can and can't I do during the healing period?
Basically treat your new piercing like it's a wound. Don't play rough sports, no rough sexual encounters. Try not to do anything that might irritate the new piercing.

How long before I can change the starter jewelry?
Depending on your healing time (can vary person to person) as long as the piercing shows no sign of infection or irritation. Wait the full healing time recommended by your body piercer.

Why do I have to start with stainless steel, gold, or titanium jewelry?
These materials are the best to prevent adverse reactions to the new object in your body. Most shops are using jewelry that has a stone , or something that looks a little better than the standard SS barbell and hoop.

Should I "spin" my jewelry when cleaning my new piercing?
Rotating or (spinning) the jewelry during healing will cut down on scabbing. If done with clean hands it should not increase the infection rate. We have seen recommendations for minimal handling. In other words -- it is not necessary, but should not be harmful if done properly.

Should I use alcohol to clean my piercing?
DO NOT use any type of alcohol to clean your piercing! It is not meant for internal use. It will only irritate and further complicate the healing process.

How long should I wait before stretching my piercing?
It is a good idea to wait at least 3 times as long as the healing time before attempting the first stretch. It is always a good idea to leave the stretching to the piercer.

Will I have problems breast feeding if my nipples are pierced?
As long as the piercing is healed you should not have any trouble. The nipple has plenty of cells of mammory glands.
